After finishing my first semester of college, I realized that they left a few important notes out of the brochure. I go to Saint Francis University and these are somethings I noticed they left out of the brochure.
1. The weather- all the pictures are of when its sunny and beautiful. I call bullshit. Where I go to school it rains every Thursday, not just a light rain, but more of a kayak to class kind of rain. Then when we got back from thanksgiving, it snowed nonstop from Sunday after thanksgiving until I left to come home on December 9th.
2. Community Showers- I know, ewww they sound gross. Honestly It is just like a shower at home, you just occasionally can never find the right temp. But don't worry, no one has to see you naked, so its all good.
3. You will love it up here- I'm gonna call a semi bullshit on this. The first few weeks are going to be really rough, not gonna lie. I called home maybe 4 or 5 times per day. What made it harder is having a long distance relationship that I wasn't very secure in. My tip, don't go to school in a long distance relationship unless you are 90% secure in it. Other wise, you will doubt and wonder and worry which is not good for your transitional experience.
4.Best friends- A college best friend can be found in the most unusual situation. I met my college best friend(s) because my boyfriend (at the time) broke up with me. Leah (my absolute best friend) and I met when I was in the student union crying. The next day we spent the whole day together and ended up learning that we had a lot in common. Finding your best friend doesn't happen right away it may take weeks or months.
5 It takes time- to enjoy college and feel comfortable. College is alot of work, but that doesn't mean that there isn't time for fun. Don't take "fun" as partying. Be safe, know who your with, and don't do anything that could risk your college career
